I was wondering whether it might be pssible to write your own PNG encoder for the .NET Bitmap.Save method by wrapping OptiPNG in a managed wrapper? The OptiPNG command-line tool gives a significant improvement in image-size compared to the output from Bitmap.Save using the PNG format and can do this very fast with the default optimization setting. Is sufficient documentation available from MS (or your book) to enable one to write a custom encoder, ideally in C#? Failing that, has anyone created an alternative improved PNG encoder as a replacement that provides an optimized PNG image?
