Button to execute an executable!!

Question

Hi there
I am new to programming and need a bit of help and guidance please.  I am currently teaching myself from a book and so wish to test myself etc as I go along.  Please can someone provide a bit of guidance as to my following project.
I wish to create a form that will on click of a button simply execute a command line executable, with this in mind should I think of a console application and bin the forms idea?
Once I have this i wish to allow the use to interact and select an option and this will append a switch to the command line of the executable that the button executes.
I have the idea in my head but can not work out where to start, please can some point me in the right direction?
