Linq Code for access Special Folder

Question

I want to access Special folder using linq code plzz help me..
var s1 = (from folder in new DirectoryInfo(@"C:\Users\" + Environment.UserName + Environment.SpecialFolder.Desktop).GetDirectories()
select folder).ToList();
im using this code but not able to retrive data...plz help

OK, to get all files in the Desktop folder including any files in sub-folders, I'd use this code:
string desktopPath = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.Desktop);
List s1 = new DirectoryInfo(desktopPath).GetFiles("*.*", SearchOption.AllDirectories).ToList();

You are in fact using LINQ here as you're calling the Enumerable.ToList() extension method which converts an IEnumerable to a List .
There would be no point using any other LINQ features because the GetFiles() method is already returning a collection of all the FileInfo objects you need.

As we're now working with files rather than folders, I'd change the return type to IList :
public static IList FileInfo > GetChildDirectories(string directory)         {             try             {                 string desktopPath = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.Desktop);                  List s1 = new DirectoryInfo(desktopPath).GetFiles("*.*", SearchOption.AllDirectories).ToList();                 return s1; (its not returning values)               }                                           catch (Exception e)             {                 Trace.WriteLine(e.Message);             }            //return vs;             return new List FileInfo >();         }

thanx a lott but m facing some problem as m using IList so m nt able to return values to list here is my code:-

i want to access Favorites which include Deskto, Recent and Downloads so i want to retrive all files.

What exactly are you trying to retrieve here because the Desktop folder may contain files but no sub-folders?
