Sorting CheckedListBox for selected items in the list

Question

Hello,
I am new to this forum and C# in general. I have a CheckedListBox control that I would like to sort for selected items and then all the following unselected items would be sorted alphabetically. In other words, the selected items would appear at the top of the list in the GUI (and don't necessarily have to be in alphabetical order) and then all the unchecked items after this would be in alphabetical order. Any suggestions for going about this would be great. Also, if this has already been done by someone a point in the right direction (code example) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks guys! I have been busy with some other projects but I think this will work. I will reply again if I run into anything else.

Hi Newell,
Here you go
private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
List checkedItems = new List ();
List uncheckedItems = new List ();
List mySortedArray = new List ();
// iterate the list by using index starting from zero.
for (int index = 0; index
if (checkedListBox1.GetItemCheckState(index) == CheckState.Checked)
{
// store checked items
checkedItems.Add(checkedListBox1.Items[index].ToString());
}
else
{
// store unchecked items
uncheckedItems.Add(checkedListBox1.Items[index].ToString());
}
}
//checkedItems.Sort();
uncheckedItems.Sort();
mySortedArray.AddRange(checkedItems);
mySortedArray.AddRange(uncheckedItems);
// all we have to do is display this in your list.
checkedListBox1.Items.Clear();
foreach (string value in mySortedArray)
{
checkedListBox1.Items.Add(value);
}
}

Answer

You would have to run a check and check each object in the list box to see if its checked or not, load the objects that are checked into an ArrayList, and then sort the ArrayList and use a for each structure to redistribute the items into the list box sorted while manually removing each instance of a checked item.
Sounds complicated but its not too bad...

I don't think there's a built-in function for you requirement. You would manually have to do the sorting.
