Below code will be useful   var  url = _spPageContextInfo.webAbsoluteUrl +  "/_api/web/lists/getbytitle('CustomList')/items?$top=1000" ;        var  response = response || [];   // variable to store list items from response         function  GetListItems(){           $.ajax({               url: url,                 method:  "GET" ,                 headers: {                      "Accept" :  "application/json; odata=verbose"                  },               success:  function (data){                   response = response.concat(data.d.results);                    if  (data.d.__next) {                       url = data.d.__next;                       GetListItems();                   }               },               error:  function (error){                       // error handler code goes here                }           });       }

The 5K threshold is real nighmare to the SharePoint Developers who are working with SharePoint Online versions. Because one cannot change the threshold value as we can do in SP On Premises.   So the only possible way is to make recursive calls.   So in order to make recursive call you can refer to this URL   https://codewithrohit.wordpress.com/2017/06/01/sharepoint-rest-api/

You can get more than 5000 items.You need to call recursively to get 5000 items in each call.   Find a sample code here : https://goo.gl/QXw9wp   Hope this helps.   Regards, Chanakya
