variable not recognized in same namespace

Question

Hi
If the access modifier of a variable is internal (or public), it will be reachable from everywhere in the namespace.
In this website app, i define a public variable in class Login. I know there are other ways to pass variable from page to page (session, viewstate ..) but i wonder why the variable is not recognized in the other class Textbox (which is in the same namespace).
Thanks.
V.
namespace test
{
public partial class Login : System.Web.UI.Page
{
public int x = 5;
...
--------------
namespace test
{
public partial class Textbox : System.Web.UI.Page
{
...
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "", "alert('" + x + "');", true);
}

You already know that this is not a correct way, and i hope you are doing it just for learning purpose, even in the same namespace, we need to create the object of class in other class. if namespace are different  Test.Login  obj  =  new  Test.Login();   var  value = obj .x;    if namespace are same Login  obj  =  new  Login();     var  value = obj .x;    and please don't compare winform with webform they are very different. Web forms request are http request through your PC network to browser to server.

Yes as asnwered. Since your variable is in public scope then you can use it another class through object. If you want to use it without creating object of then then you have to create pubic static (shared variable).   Example:   public   static   int  x=5;

Can you summarize shortly why OOP is not applicable here? And  alternatively,  why that error? And finally, how come that the progam runs despite the error? Thanks and a happy new year (here is 16h).

for testing and knowledge purpose use reflection then you would better understand why oop's concept is not applicable here. string  pagePath  =  "~/Default.aspx" ;           Type  type  =  BuildManager .GetCompiledType(pagePath);           Page  obj = (Page)Activator.CreateInstance(type);        var  value = obj .x;

Thansk for replying. I'm aware that this is not the right way but i wanted to try this for learning purpose. I just wonder whether it would be possible to apply OOP technique in web site app. This code works despite the fact i get an error at this line: test.Default obj = new test.Default(); "Default is inaccessible due to its protection level". So I have two last questions: 1) why doesn't the code not work (shoudn't because of the error)? 2) how to fix that error? Default is public, so it must be accessible everywhere? Thanks again. V namespace test { public partial class Default : System.Web.UI.Page { public int x = 5; } } --------------- namespace test2 { public partial class Default2 : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { test.Default obj = new test.Default(); ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "", "alert('" + obj.x + "');", true); } } }

Yopu need to create the object of class and then using that object you can access publics.

For example:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{

Login login = new Login()
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "", "alert('" + login.x + "');", true);
}

But I do not understand why do you wnat to declare a variable there. What is your usecase?
