My first real introduction to programming was when Radio Shack came out with the TRS-80 computer. That summer, my friend Mark and I rode our bikes down to the local store just about every day. Tamdy Corporate had dumped all the new gear on the manger without any real explanation beyond how to arrange the display , so he was happy to let us dig into the manuals and figure it all out. We entered in BASIC programs from the books and experimented making changes and then writing our own programs. A few years later I was writing assembly code on the Atari 8-bit machines and trying out every new programming environment I could get my hands on. College introduced me to Fortran and Cobol and the idea of computers not always being a lot of fun.
A few years later, I was working on software for the Atari ST computers at NEOCEPT, including FONTZ TURBOJET and WORDUP. I spent several years at Atari doing a combination of development and developer support for the ST computers and Jaguar game console. That led to s position as Senior Developer Support engineer at SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT in the early PlayStation days, Since then I've had positions at VM LABS, GENESIS MICROCHIP,, and NVidia and I've done a variety of private contracting, consulting, web design and just about everything else you can imagine.
